Naked Truth

Any man can get knocked down. The hero is the man who gets back up.
Princess Isabella, on Galavant
Doing a series like this one has a remarkable effect. I start hearing more profound things in my daily life. This line was slipped in between jokes in a musical farce. Seriously, in Galavant, the show I watch when my brain is too tired to deal with 30 Rock.
It reminds me of the voice teacher who told me that most of singing was training your ear. You learn to hear the distance between the notes of music, whether it’s two sung in sequence or several played at the same time on a piano. The more clearly you hear the sound, the easier your vocal cords can reproduce it. By this logic, hearing all these deep thoughts should make the words I speak more evolved. Or maybe it just makes me better at TV trivia. Jury’s still out.
The hard questions in life never go away. Comedy understands this. It allows the occasional deep thought in, just for the pleasure of turning it on its head so we can see it in a new way.
Here, Isabella’s deep thought served as fodder for Galavant‘s writers to get Joshua Sasse’s shirt off again. See? New.
Kimberly is going to start looking for pub quizzes that specialize in TV trivia, because the evolved thought thing does not seem to be working out for her.
