May is a month of renewal in the northern hemisphere. Every single one of my theatre chums is singing “It’s May, It’s May, the lusty month of May…” right now. We welcome those May flowers that the April showers promised. We remember mothers, laborers around the world and those who gave their lives in war. Some see maypoles. My neck of the woods, we think of Sweeps Month. (At least we did, before Netflix.) My childhood self senses summer and freedom around the corner, even as my spoil-sport grown-up persona points out that things have changed. If now isn’t the time to start blogging again, no time will be. So, for the next thirty-one days, I will post a note of inspiration each day – some lengthy, some brief, some accompanied by pretty pictures – in an effort to get all of us to breathe in May’s spirit of possibility.
Insecurity is like allergies. Both pop up with annoying regularity, telling us we must be slaves to their limitations. Consider these blogs your emotional Claritin.
Everybody is unique. Do not compare yourself with anybody else lest you spoil God’s curriculum.

Admit it. Deep down, we like comparison. It saves us work. Having to evaluate each thing you encounter as a separate entity, new and wholly different, is exhausting. This is probably why babies cry so much. Each day brings information overload.
People, however – artists, accountants, philosophers, gardeners, computer programmers, football players (the American or international kind) and every other sort – don’t fit easy descriptions. We have so much in common and yet come in an infinite amount of varieties. Describing me to someone as a cross between Princess Diana and Erma Bombeck might offer them all sorts of ideas about me, but very few of them will be true. (For one, it leaves out the generous helping of Jane Austen.)
Embrace your unique self today. You defy comparison. Your part in the world, however small, cannot go to anyone else.
Own that blade of grass, ladybug. Nobody does it like you do.
You read my mind. I loved your rant at Trump and I welcome May.
Anxiety is a symptom of aging, as is insecurity, and I am surrounded by it at ‘Overhill Estates,’ which is an OFH (old folks home.)
Sanity makes me abnormal and it’s nice to know that there are sane adults out there carrying the torch.
Solo encourages me to blog as annthatswhy to blow off steam.
Great post! Looking forward to more throughout the month!
“Comparison is the thief of joy.” I don’t know who said it, but I remind myself of it regularly.
Embrace the May!!!
