It May Never Stop

Don’t grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.

One of the best acting teachers I ever had told my class, “Always be happy when someone gets a part, even if it’s a part you think you should have gotten.” Roger DeLaurier said many wise things, but this is probably the one that sticks with me the most. There are certainly losses more grave than a part in a play, but the principle remains. The job, the house, the lover – whatever it is that eludes us doesn’t carry the singular weight that we assign it. Rather than being the instrument of our desire itself, it plays the tune that we recognize. The tune exists in the universe, and we will hear the song in other places. Even those we lose to death leave echoes for us to hear if we pay attention.
The tune that makes our souls dance plays all the time, whispering through the trees and soaring with the clouds. We just have to move forward and listen for it.
Kimberly dances to the tune in her heart.
