Monday Moments: Beauty
It’s true. Nobody walks in L.A. Well, almost nobody. I walk, kind of a lot. It’s one of my favorite forms of exercise. I wish all of that walking could be on our spectacular beaches, but alas, much of it is on city streets, which boast far less scenic value.
Along this not particularly lovely stretch of road, however, sat this scrubby bush. With L.A.’s strange weather and the perverse nature of plants, it decided to burst into blossom in late October. Walking down this road that I walk several times a week, I noticed the tiny flowers and had to stare. With no fertilizer and a record drought, this plant managed to insert itself in the ground and flourish, providing me a tiny bit of beauty next to the wall topped with razor wire.
But true beauty is like that. It doesn’t come when called or even when paid for. It just pops up where it wants to, in a new love, an old friend, or even an otherwise unlovely stretch of road.
Kimberly walks in L.A., but she can understand why other people don’t.
It is a gift to see new beauty in an old place.
Love that not only do you notice such things, then you take the time to write about them so beautifully.
Wonderful thought to remember each day!
I keep having to tell myself I should just try to bloom where I’m planted rather than wish to be transplanted . . .
I keep telling myself the same thing, Manda. Some days it works, and some days it doesn’t.
