Kreativ Blogger Award
Apr 23rd, 2012 by Kimberly
Well, well, well. If my cheeks look a little pink and a smile seems to hover around the corners of my mouth no matter how hard I try to stop it, that would be because I was just nominated for the Kreativ Blogger Award by the lovely and talented Liza Wolff-Francis over at Matrifocal Point.
What is the Kreativ Blogger Award (and why has someone decided to mangle its spelling)? I don’t exactly know. A little research tells me that it has been going around the internet for a while (I found at least one entry from 2009) and that it has two rules. In acknowledging your acceptance, you must reveal seven little-known facts about yourself, and then nominate seven other websites for the award. Research, as usual, explains nothing about other people’s grammatical quirks.
All that really matters, however, is that one of my fellow bloggers decided to pass on my blog to others, recommending it for “adventuring into the mind and feelings of another, life commentary, as well as for fiction.” (Thank you, Liza!) I am tickled, and only too happy to pass on the favor.
Now, for those seven obscure Kimberly facts that you are all on the edge of your seat to hear:
- I don’t like wine. People always assume that I am turning down a glass of vino for religious reasons. Nope. I have no problem with you enjoying a glass if it makes you happy. It just doesn’t taste good to me.
- I won third place in an art contest when I was eight. I don’t actually remember entering, but my mother and grandmother have framed copies of the newspaper article announcing the fact. It was the pinnacle of my career as a visual artist.
- I have, to the best of my knowledge, lived in seventeen different houses and/or apartments throughout the course of my life. One of them twice.
- Anaesthetic and I don’t get along.
- I minored in French in college. Mostly, I use it to impress waiters with my pronunciation. The owner of a local lunch place almost had a heart attack when I managed to say “you’re welcome” correctly. (Je vous en prie, in case you ever need to know.)
- For most of sixth grade, I wanted to be an orthodontist. Honestly, I couldn’t tell you why.
- I’ve been writing since I was young, almost younger than I can pinpoint. I think I was the only fifth grader who wrote her creative writing assignments as a series, with characters based on all her classmates.
So now you know.
Here’s the part where I nominate others. Bloggers, there is nothing further to do on your part. If you want to pass it on, feel free, but I really just want to give you all a cyber-pat on the back for a job well done. (Plus, several of them will probably never find out I nominated them. Oh, well.)
Erika Gardner – for fun and fantasy fiction, but really – where else can you find discussion of Ronnie James Dio and Garth Brooks on the same page?
I Should Have Taken That Left – Kristin Alvick Graf’s commentary on the feats and foibles of everyday life. Pound for pound (or word for word, I guess) more wit than you will find almost anywhere else.
The Doghouse: Notes on a Mad World – Charlie Wood’s poetic musings. For those days when you just want to savor language like the treat that it really should be.
Margaret and Helen – Women who’ve been friends long enough to say anything to each other, and alive long enough to say anything to everyone else. They are the blogger equivalent of a hot fudge sundae that just shows up for free at the end of your meal. Dig in.
The God Article – Rev. Mark Sandlin says almost everything I wish I had the knowledge and grace to say about the loving, forgiving nature of God. Thank you, Rev. Mark, for fighting against the voices of hate.
That Blog Is So Takei – George Takei, the one we all know from Star Trek, shares his views on life as a gay man, life as an Asian-American, and life as a former Trekkie, as well as just life. You should also follow him on Facebook. Trust me on this one.
There you have it. No, I didn’t forget one. There are only six, because I wanted to limit it to the ones that I really, really find creative with a capital K (at least in this case). Click. Read. Enjoy. A latte to accompany your journey would not be amiss.
Kimberly escapes into these blogs from time to time in order to restore her sanity. Don’t leave her, bloggers. Don’t ever leave her. She needs you.
Yay – super awesome and congrats!! I always thought it was “de rien.”
SO deserved. Congratulations!
I’m with you on the wine – it just tastes like slightly metallic vinegar to me. Oh well. Congrats on the award – you SO deserve it. Also… any chance that we could get our eyes on that series of creative writing assignments. Bet they are a hoot!
And thanks for the blog alerts – I will definitely check them out.
Thank you, everyone! (Oh, and Karen, I think “de rien” may work, too – “Je vous en prie” was what I learned in French class, and evidently it passes.)
Jackie, I think the assignments were probably tossed long ago. Or my mom may be saving them for potential blackmail material. You never know.
